Aloe emodin, a hydroxyl anthraquinone extracted from aloe vera leaves, It has been widely used because of its antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-mutation, and other pharmacological activities. Aloe Vera extract Emodin is orange needle crystal (toluene), or earth yellow crystal powder. Melting point 223 ~ 224°, easy to sublimate. Soluble in acetaldehyde, benzene, hot ethanol, dilute ammonia, sodium carbonate, and sodium hydroxide aqueous solution. Soluble in hot ethanol. Yellow in diethyl ether and benzene, crimson in ammonia and sulfuric acid.

 

 

Aloe emodin is the antibacterial active component of Rhubarb, and the bacteria sensitive to it are Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and diphtheria, subtilis, anthrax, paratyphoid fever and dysentery, among which staphylococcus and streptococcus are the most sensitive. Aloe emodin also inhibits DNA, RNA, and protein biosynthesis in cancer cells.

1. Antimicrobial Activity

At the concentration of 1.5 ~ 25mg/ml, aloe emoin has an inhibitory effect on staphylococcus, Streptococcus, diphtheria bacillus, Bacillus subtilis, anthrax, paratyimurium, dysenteribacter and so on. Among them, it is most sensitive to Staphylococcus and streptococcus, and the effective concentration of antibacterial is 15-25ug/ml. The antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus 209P, Escherichia coli, and Shigella flexneri was 7.5mg/L and 600mg/L, respectively. One of its mechanisms is the inhibition of mitochondrial respiratory chain electron transport.

Aloe emodin has a strong inhibitory effect on nucleic acid and protein synthesis of Staphylococcus aureus. Aloe emodin has a strong inhibitory effect on common anaerobic bacteria in clinical practice, among which it can inhibit the growth of 90% ~ 100% strains of common Fragilis, and its MIC is slightly higher than metronidazole. At the concentration of 8μg/ml, 76% ~ 91% of anaerobic bacteria were inhibited.

2. Immunosuppressive Effect

Aloe emodin can inhibit biological antibodies production, lighten the burden on immune organs, the number of white blood cells produced by stress decreases, and reduce the function of peritoneal macrophages.

3. Laxative Effect

Aloe emodin has a strong cathARtic activity, intestinal bacteria metabolize aloe emodin, rhein, rhein anthrone, the latter has a strong cathartic effect. Clinically, it can be used as a laxative to increase appetite and slow diarrhea of large intestine. According to foreign medicical reports, Aloin is hydrolyzed to aloe emodin under the action of internal parasitic bacteria in the human body, this aloe emodin stimulates peristalsis of the intestinal wall, at the same time, due to the change of osmotic pressure, is conducive to the elimination of waste in the intestinal tract, thereby achieving stimulation and catharsis, this stimulating catharsis effect has a special effect on constipation and hemorrhoids.
